First of all, there are talks of making Java more Linux-friendly. Personally, I'd prefer Java to be open sourced, but we can only wait and see what happens in the future.
There's also some legislation that is current going through the US Congress, which could get rid of the idea of net neutrality. Here are three articles on this: Net Freedom Now!; American Samizdat; and The End of the Internet?.
